Big Peacock Bass from 2010, part 3
You know it’s a successful trophy peacock bass fishing trip when you have to post 3 articles covering some of the biggest peacock bass caught during the trip! Our January 2010 adventure along the Rio Negro definitely qualifies as an immensely productive giant peacock bass fishing trip showing everything the mighty river has to offer!
We finished our fishing week along the Rio Negro North of Santa Isabel near the waters that have produced world record-sized peacock bass in the past. We were so far up mighty Rio Negro we could just start to see the foothills and ancient volcanoes the rain waters come down from during the rainy season.
‘Gator’ Jim Taylor was fishing the final day of our week with Nick Owings and expert river peacock bass guide G when they got on a giant peacock bass bonanza far upriver! They ran a long ways and stayed out extra to get to a hot spot!
While Nick and Jim where experiencing an amazing day of trophy Peacock Bass fishing with G the rest of us were still hammering away with big topwater prop baits like Woodchoppers and other methods!
Not the last day of the trip but middle of the week, Dave Gizzi of our group of anglers was fishing with another hot expert river guide and Nick Owings when he hammered the biggest peacock bass of our trophy week fishing trip – a Giant 24 1/2 pound monster Rio Negro Speckled Peacock Bass!
Nick Owings had a great week of big peacock bass fishing for sure fishing with Dave Gizzi when Dave caught the biggest peacock bass of our trip above, and then getting one almost as big himself while fishing with G and ‘Gator’ Jim Taylor!
Meanwhile ‘Gator’ Jim Taylor finishes his hot week of trophy peacock bass fishing with another over 20 pounds – his 4th of the week!
If you wondering why we call him ‘Gator’ Jim Taylor you may have missed this video of Jim:
